Why I am a Coach: 4 Beliefs & 4 Loves

I spend coaching session after coaching session helping others find their ‘why’ and drill down on what drives them. But I rarely take the opportunity to express to my clientele why I do what I do! Here are the Four Beliefs and Four Loves that compel me to be a Career & Life Coach.

I’m a coach because…
  1. I believe people are incredibly valuable and deserve to be listened to at a deep level – maybe even a deeper level than they’ve previously listened to themselves.
  2. I believe people often know the best answers to their quandary, question, or quest; they just need help articulating those answers and trusting their own experience and voice.
  3. I believe people have to act on what they know for it to make a difference in the world. Taking action by answering the question “What will I do differently because that is true?” builds a bridge between our thoughts and our lives.
  4. I believe people can often succeed with a small boost from someone who believes the best about them and will champion their efforts.

I’m a coach because…
  1. I love being invited into someone’s unformed plans. It’s an honor to sit with clients in their questions rather than merely be presented with the already-determined parts of their lives and strategies.
  2. I love being present for that lightbulb moment – that ‘aha!’ experience – when something clicks and a new piece falls into place in a client’s life and thinking.
  3. I love helping people discover, articulate and apply their strengths. Far too few clients recognize what is uniquely good in them – where their innate talents lie and why those talents matter for themselves and their neighbors.
  4. I love coaching conversations! I realized recently that if I was somehow independently wealthy and never had to work another day in my life, I would actually pay other people to let me coach them. That’s how much I enjoy being a life coach. And I want other people to find this level of satisfaction in their lives and careers, too.

That's me! What are the beliefs and loves that drive what you do?
